Prenuvo, Transforming Health with Proactive MRI Innovation

By: Bethany Myers

A whole-body MRI screening center in Los Angeles, Prenuvo’s mission is to shift the paradigm from “sick-care” to proactive healthcare. Instead of relying on symptoms to emerge and diseases to advance, Prenuvo’s whole-body MRI screenings can detect 500+ conditions, including cancers as early as Stage 1, other “silent killers” like aneurysms, and various other diseases. Empowered with comprehensive health data, customers can take actionable steps toward managing their well-being.

History of Business

In 2009, Dr. Raj Attariwala began screening patients after the loss of a close family friend, Reenu, to stage 4 colon cancer. Her death left behind four young children whom Dr. Raj and his wife helped raise alongside her widow. This experience served as a daily reminder that better and more accessible imaging technology and a proactive care approach could have made a difference. As a result, Dr. Raj, a biomedical engineer and nuclear medicine radiologist, made it his mission to develop such technology.

About the Business

Prenuvo takes pride in their role as pioneers within the realm of proactive whole-body MRI scans. Their whole-body scans are fast  (less than one hour), safe (no radiation), and non-invasive (no contrast). The scans provide 10x more clinical grade images compared to conventional MRI imaging.

They’re committed to making their innovative technology accessible to everyone, and excited to see the impact it's having on people's lives. With Prenuvo, clients can be proactive about their health, catching potential health concerns early and making informed decisions about their wellness journey. In fact, on average, Prenuvo has alerted 1 out of 20 patients to potentially life-saving findings.

What’s Unique

Based on a convergence of custom MRI hardware, proprietary software acquisition protocols and calibration, and, over time, assistive use of AI, Prenuvo optimizes for patient impact: this leads to faster, more accurate diagnoses than traditional methods for patients and, at the same time, provides medical providers with a better understanding of the disease itself, opening the door to opportunities to improve treatment.

As a proactive measure that will build into a regular routine, the proprietary Prenuvo scan needs to be safe and non-invasive. This means that, unlike many other screening modalities, Prenuvo is radiation-free and does not require the injection of a contrast agent.

Philosophy of the Business

Imagine a world where no one has to say “We caught it too late” again. At Prenuvo, they’re transforming the traditional, reactive "sick care" healthcare model to a proactive healthcare approach. Their innovative technology provides people with direct and powerful insights into their health, giving them the tools to take control of their health and live longer, happier lives.

Driven by a vision where no one has to suffer from cancer or be blindsided by a late-stage disease diagnosis, the team at Prenuvo works tirelessly to make their advanced screening technology more accessible and affordable. The goal is to ensure that everyone who can benefit from their scans can have access to them, regardless of their financial situation.

Inspiration When Starting Prenuvo

Co-owner, Andrew, received a scan as a patient back in 2018 and realized he had learned more about his health in one hour than he ever had in his entire life. From there, Dr. Attariwala and Andrew partnered together to build the company.

Success Stories

At Prenuvo, success isn't just about providing cutting-edge health technology; it's about changing lives. Their proudest moments are when members reach out to share how much Prenuvo has enriched their health journeys with innovative screening technology.

  • As a US military vet, a construction entrepreneur, a husband, and a father of two, Ryan came to Prenuvo because he was curious about health innovation. With a healthy and active lifestyle, and absolutely no symptoms, Ryan never imagined that Prenuvo would uncover stage 3 cancer in his kidney — thankfully, just in time.

  • Two weeks after giving birth to her second child, Mona was experiencing discomfort that was typical of postpartum symptoms. Yet, deep down, her intuition whispered that something more was amiss. This led her to Prenuvo. Little did she know, this decision would reveal an unexpected finding that would change her life - thyroid cancer. Fortunately, it was caught early and treated immediately. So now, her little ones will have their mother by their side for years to come.

  • With two decades of experience as a health and fitness trainer, Marzia understood the importance of being proactive with her health. Intrigued by the potential insights it could offer, she got a Prenuvo scan. The results not only revealed her entry into menopause but also validated that 25 years of chiropractic care had a positive impact on her scoliosis. For Marzia, the Prenuvo scan provided more than just medical insights; it gifted her a profound sense of peace and empowerment. She continues to apply her new, increased knowledge of her body in her daily well-being decisions.

These exciting accounts are just some of the many inspiring stories from members who have gained peace of mind and the power to make informed health decisions due to such precise scans.

Message for the Community

For years, the medical community has been fixated on treating illness after it strikes. But this reactive approach is not always effective, especially when it comes to diseases that don't show symptoms until it's too late. That's why Prenuvo believes that proactive healthcare is the key to a healthier future.

Early detection is crucial for better treatment options and improved health outcomes. By putting patients at the center of their own healthcare, Prenuvo empowers them to take control of their health and catch potential health issues before they become more serious.

About the Owner

CEO of Prenuvo, Andrew Lacy, was born in Australia but moved to California in 2003. On a path to becoming a lawyer, he eventually fell in love with entrepreneurship and building businesses. And what better place to start than in California? Now, Andrew lives in Los Angeles, close to the flagship clinic in Brentwood. “As everyone knows about LA traffic, you want to be living close enough to where you work to avoid using the freeways, so I’m happy I accomplished that!” says Andrew.

Since the inception of Prenuvo, Andrew is thrilled to deliver a service that has such a tremendously positive impact on people's lives. Through the technology offered, Andrew and his team have given thousands of life-saving diagnoses and brought peace of mind to tens of thousands of people. With such a great responsibility to have people trust this business with their health, Andrew takes his role very seriously.

Life Outside of Work

“I've been fortunate to have lived in some of the world's great cities - London, Paris, Madrid, Sydney and now Los Angeles. Being surrounded by culture, entertainment and new restaurants has always been a big part of what keeps my life rich outside of work,” Andrew remarks.

Giving Back

Prenuvo supports a number of charities that are working to further research into cancer. They frequently support local schools that raise funds to help improve access to education. And before moving to California, Andrew spent time volunteering in Latin America and Africa for organizations like Habitat for Humanity.
