Thread Lift. What Is It?

By: Dr. Jennifer Armstrong

Known as a less invasive option to facelifts, thread lifts allow doctors to create a sculpted, lifted look without the incisions or scars of a surgical facelift. Like a marionette, with one pull of a string (thread), downward-facing brows can be elevated back into position, or jowls can be lifted to create a more youthful appearance.

Thread lifts of the past, which got a bad rap, are different from modern-day thread lifts. Threads are surgical sutures with either cone anchors or mini barbs that hold the skin and deeper tissue in a more youthful position. They are constructed with absorbable materials that are chemically similar to sugar. After insertion, the materials are absorbed by the body within a few months and stimulate collagen in their place to retain the result.

Dr. Armstrong loves the thread lift treatment so much that she created her very own proprietary threads made with specially formulated Poly-L-Lactic acid (PLLA). These threads not only physically lift the features of the face, but the PLLA in the threads stimulates collagen production to help your results improve for up to two years. Even the queen of Goop is a fan!

During the treatment, "threads" are inserted under the skin's surface and used to lift the features of the face from the inside out. The treatment mimics a facelift without cutting, scarring, recovery time, and anesthesia.

Benefits of a Thread Lift

  • Minimally invasive cosmetic treatment

  • No invasive cutting, scarring, or anesthesia

  • Smooths away unwanted fine lines and wrinkles

  • Tightens loose skin around the mid-face

  • PLLA threads increase collagen production over time

  • Minimal downtime or recovery period

Candidates for a Thread Lift

A thread lift may be suitable for anyone looking for a minimally invasive anti-aging treatment that will smooth away signs of aging without surgery. Ideal candidates for a thread lift are generally in good health and have realistic expectations of their results.

Cost of a Thread Lift

The cost of a thread lift will depend on the extent of treatment needed to achieve the desired results. To learn much a thread lift will cost, it is best if you come in for a private consultation with Dr. Armstrong.
