Meet Your Great Neighbor, Mickie Purcell

By: Amanda Huntsman

Mickie Purcell has lived in Newport Beach since 2010 and currently resides at Balboa Bay Club, which provides a sense of security and intimacy, breathtaking views of the ocean and bay, and favorable weather. What is not to love about that?!

Her professional focus is on expanding businesses and brands in the entertainment and finance industries. She is Vice President of Roundtable Financial and recently served as an Executive Producer for "The Lost Weekend, A Love Story." Mickie is excited to share the remarkable tale of John Lennon's 18-month romance with May Pang, his former assistant turned lover. This film features exclusive footage never seen before, showcasing John's most prolific period post-Beatles, as recounted by May herself. She takes you on a heartfelt journey back in time to when she was a young 22-year-old, experiencing her first unforgettable love. This heartfelt and intimate documentary is available to stream now.

Mickie’s true passion lies in her non-profit foundation, Walking With Anthony, which she established with her son after he experienced a spinal cord injury in 2010. They've raised over 4 million dollars to support individuals and their families living with this devastating injury through their annual galas and fundraisers. Mickie recently wrote a book titled "Walking With Anthony, A Mother's Fight For Her Son," which is available on Amazon. It tells the story of Mickie's tireless efforts to support her son's recovery and how she started the non-profit Walking With Anthony to assist others in similar situations. It's a heartbreaking yet uplifting story that sheds light on the struggles faced by so many people in the U.S. alone.

Her upbringing in an Irish-Catholic family inspired her lifelong passion for giving back to the community. Her future goals include continuing to make a difference in people's lives through Walking With Anthony and sharing her mother's inspirational story. After raising eleven children, she pursued and obtained a law degree and retired as a circuit court judge. She was a true trailblazer who laid the foundation for many women for many years to come. Mickie’s mother passed recently passed away at the age of 92.

In her personal life, Mickie is a single parent with two children and four grandchildren. She divides her time between Newport Beach and Fort Lauderdale. She would like to encourage the Newport Beach community to embrace and cherish time with loved ones while giving back to the community.

Aside from her work and charity, she enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, traveling, and positively impacting people's lives. As her personal motto states, "You're not living if you're not giving."

Local Love

"Three years ago, my life changed forever when I was in a horrific car accident that made me a person with quadriplegia. I lost my beautiful baby girl, Micki Valentine Nolan. Not only did I lose my baby, but I also lost my way in this world by not being able to do things for myself. I felt so defeated, knowing I had such a long road ahead of me of recovery physically and mentally. I knew God answered my prayers when I was introduced to the Walking with Anthony foundation, which was started by Anthony's mother, Mickie; Anthony suffered from a spinal cord injury also. I could not believe her name was Micki Nolan; I knew in my heart that my angel Micki Valentine introduced me to her to receive the funds and education to get my life back together. Since the first day I met Micki, I truly felt she had my back in my recovery and would be there every step. I see her as a mentor and mother figure because she is caring and loving. I am so grateful that she has been introduced into my life, as she has helped me overcome so many obstacles and challenges that I never knew I could. Her son's foundation is a true gift to others who have gone through what I have." - Tara Nolan

"I met Mickie at the Balboa Bay Club, where she resides and is a known fixture. She has been such a light in my good friend Tar's life. I have so much love and respect for Mickie. She not only helps people like my friend Tar recover from Spinal cord injuries through her charity walking with Anthony, but she is also a boss babe. She keeps herself busy making things happen in the film and financial industries. Once you meet Mickie, you will not forget her. She has a vibrant personality and a big heart. She is a fun and welcomed addition to our community." - Jordana Chapma
