Chasing the Desert Sun

By: Amanda Huntsman

If you are searching for a luxe family desert getaway, look no further than the historic Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa. Nestled in the heart of Coachella Valley, this stunning resort recently underwent a $21 million renovation, introducing new amenities and culinary offerings, redesigned guest rooms and suites, and expansive outdoor gathering spaces. The resort offers 530 rooms—including secluded private villas. Each one- and two-bedroom casita-style villa accommodation is equipped with a private backyard patio area, which features either a hot tub or firepit and the option to take advantage of a private chef BBQ experience.

The resort boasts three distinct dining venues, each offering a unique culinary experience. The Agave Sunset is a fine dining restaurant that serves up delicious dishes inspired by the flavors of the Southwest, while the Roadrunner Café is a newly reimagined poolside café offering elevated American favorites such as sliders and paninis. Finally, the Citrus Marketplace and Café offers fresh grapefruit, oranges, and lemons grown right on the resort grounds, along with a selection of locally sourced foods.

When it comes to relaxation, the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa has you covered. Seven sparkling pools are situated throughout the property, each offering a unique experience set against a picturesque backdrop of mountains and palm trees. For those who like to keep active, there are plenty of options, from free bike rentals to tennis, golf, yoga, and Pilates.

Our family getaway included many hours at the New HyTides Plunge Waterpark and Desert Twist Lazy River; it is fun for the whole family. The most exhilarating feature of the waterpark is the set of 30-foot dueling waterslides, which have earned the status of the tallest waterslides in the Coachella Valley. The waterslides offer two unique routes, twisting over the resort's seven pools, the new 450-foot Desert Twist Lazy River, and a fun-filled kids' splash pad. The splash pad has been expanded and now includes a third waterslide, which does not have any height requirements, as well as dumping buckets, fountains, water cannons, and other water park favorites that kids thoroughly enjoy. The water features have also been upgraded with an all-new Ozone water purification system, which is completely free of added chemicals, making it a safe and healthy destination for families.

The Agua Serena Spa is the perfect oasis of serenity for adults looking to unwind. Surrounded by majestic mountains and lush palm trees, guests can soak up the serene atmosphere while breathing in the fresh desert air. The private garden patio is a haven of tranquility with a gentle flow of water to channel one's inner peace. I had the chance to try the Biologique Recherché signature multifaceted and hyper-customized treatment, which focuses on the face, neck, décolleté, and hands and is designed to show improvements instantly. The treatment began with a deep cleansing and exfoliation followed by a lifting facial massage with varying serums and facial masks. This targeted facial is suitable for both men and women and can assist with all anti-aging needs, acne, sensitivities, and pigmentation. I left with glowing skin and so much knowledge on how to care for my specific skin type.

Adjacent to the resort is Indian Wells Golf Resort. There are two of the most revered courses in the United States, both of which have been listed in Golfweek Magazine's Top 25 "Best Municipal Courses." The Players Course and Celebrity Course have been meticulously designed to provide an exceptional golfing experience for players of all skill levels. The courses offer diverse and challenging features establishing them as a must-play destination for golf enthusiasts. Moreover, the resort boasts a magnificent 53,000-square-foot clubhouse that offers a wide range of upscale amenities to make the golf experience even more unforgettable. The latest addition of Toptracer's trajectory line technology to the driving range has taken its entertainment offerings to the next level, providing an unparalleled golfing experience. To top it off, Vue Grille & Bar at the Golf Resort offers mouth-watering contemporary California Cuisine, making it an excellent spot to grab a bite after a long day on the course.

Finally, the resort features 88,000 square feet of function space for events and social gatherings, including the newly debuted Fireside Garden. This intimate gathering space, located under the stars along the 17th hole of Indian Wells Golf Resort, is ideal for small events and al fresco dining experiences. So why wait? Book your stay at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa today and experience the ultimate in luxury desert living.
