Is She Really Going Out With Him? By: Sophie Cousens

Happy February Neighbors!

As we are in the month of love, I wanted to introduce you to a book that is written by someone who, in my opinion, is the queen on Rom Coms! Sophie Cousens is one of my FAVES and her new novel, Is She Really Going Out With Him? Does NOT disappoint!

Let’s start from the beginning. Local magazine columnist, Anna Appleby, has pretty much forgotten about her love life after a divorce that she would quite frankly LOVE to forget. I mean, she had two (amazing) kids, a cuddly cat, and she doesn’t need to fight over the remote control at night. So really, who needs a man? Besides, being single seems far better than subjecting herself to the online dating horrors she’s heard about. At the same time, her office rival is focused on stealthily stealing her column, and for her, no column means no stable source of income…which she desperately needs. Attempting to keep her job, Anna fully goes Andy Anderson mode in “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days” and pitches going on seven dates, all found offline, chosen by her children. All to keep her love life alive…and her job.

Friends! From the most awkward meetings to wildly unexpected connections, Anna gets completely into her kids creative and outlandish ideas about what men to date, and she really begins to put herself out there, from seriously asking out very young waiters, the quirky but kind mailman, her landlord, and even her celebrity crush. But what happens when a genuine romantic attraction appears out of nowhere and where she would neverexpect it? Anna now officially has to come to a decision…will she be brave enough to take another chance on love?

I can only say that this book was a serious delight from the moment I started to when I put it down. I read it quickly and was so invested. (I do have my favorite dates BTW…but I’ll let you decide for yourselves.) Also, could you imagine your own kids choosing your dates for you? Anna’s kids were definitely one of my favorite storylines—Sophie writes them so well and they know their mom so well! The relationship she has with them is so heartwarming in itself!

Ok, now let’s talk about Will. The young, cute, and low-key flirty co-worker that is vying for her column. He has his own column idea’s in mind—and although he wants the column, he may want Anna, too. There’s also an almost steamy, not quite Hallmark movie approved small town work road-trip that will make you turn the pages into the wee hours of the night!

If you’re a fan of workplace romances, enemies to lovers, and age gaps, this is a def must read! The romantic tension is palpable and is a story that I promise will stick with you! Bonus…how fun would this be if you are in a book club and can discuss with your bestie’s? #galentines Amiright?

So light that candle, pour that drink, and cozy up with the this incredibly fun, light, and humorous rom com!

Happy reading!

Jill xoxo
