JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our strength lies in our exclusive focus and singular influence on the worldwide effort to end T1D.

We envision a world without type 1 diabetes, and our mission is

accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.

T1D Facts:

  • Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that suddenly strikes children and adults. Insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas are destroyed by the body’s immune system rendering the pancreas unable to produce insulin. It has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. But, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to prevent it. And, at present, there is no cure.

  • An astounding 1.45M Americans are living with T1D, with an estimated 64,000 people to be diagnosed with T1D each year.

  • There has been $2.5B in cumulative research since 1970.

JDRF research has two core objectives:

  1. Cures restore the body’s ability to make insulin and stop T1D before it occurs or provide insulin independence by replacing insulin-producing cells.

  2. Improving Lives keep people with T1D as healthy as possible until cures are found by advancing new T1D resources, technologies, and therapies.

While funding is received throughout the year from our generous donors, our annual gala is where a significant mark is made. Before the pandemic, our galas raised over $1M annually.

The JDRF Gala is one of the premier annual social and charitable events in Orange County, with a reputation for elegance, excellence, and fun!

The evening includes:

  • Hosted cocktails.

  • A three-course dinner.

  • An exceptional silent and wine auction.

  • An exciting live auction.

  • A Fund A Cure opportunity.

The event is attended by more than 450 members of our community, representing some of Orange County’s leading business, civic and philanthropic leaders. Since 1994, the JDRF Gala program has raised over $1.3 billion for diabetes research.

SAVE THE DATE!

Join us on Saturday, March 4th, at VEA Newport Beach for our first in-person Orange County Gala in three years! This year we will honor Cathie Lawler for her incredible and numerous contributions to the diabetes community.
