Meet the "Real" Katie, Realtor with Machoskie & Associates

By: Bethany Myers

History of Machoskie & Associates

After graduating from UCLA, Katie Machoskie embarked on a successful career in public relations as an entertainment publicist, representing various actors in the industry. Later, she transitioned to become a PR director at an agency for Fortune 500 food and beverage companies.

Over time, Katie discovered her passion for fund development and nonprofit work. For a remarkable span of 16 years, she dedicated herself to serving as a Fund Development Director and an Executive Director for nonprofit agencies. Then in 2003, Katie made a career change and pursued her interest in real estate, becoming a full-time realtor. In 2018, she joined COMPASS as one of its founding agents, captivated by the company's collaborative culture, cutting-edge technological platform, and comprehensive range of services that allowed her to provide unparalleled support to her clients. Today, Katie Machoskie is the Team Lead of Machoskie & Associates and oversees a team of sixteen agents at COMPASS OC.

“Many brokerages boast that they are national or worldwide companies, but that means very little to the client if those agents don't know and interact with one another. I've never encountered any brokerage that cultivates agent-to-agent relationships the way COMPASS does,” says Katie.

Katie became an active member of the 6AMERS, a group dedicated to being “healthy–selfish”, taking care of mental and physical health of its agents with meditation and inspiring speakers and resources. She serves as the OC representative of the national COMPASS team, The Private Client Network, responsible for nearly $8.4 Billion in sales last year.  She is also the founder of KT’s@COMPASS, a national networking group of COMPASS agents with their first name beginning with Katie.

Katie enjoys the psychology behind her role in real estate and the connections she’s nurtured along the way. Many of her clients turn into life-long friends and lean on Katie for all aspects of real estate and home ownership knowledge, which she’s happy to share.

Business Philosophy

“Locals-only knowledge while offering a Luxury Real Estate experience regardless of the price point.”

Biggest inspiration in life

Katie’s biggest inspiration is her family, which includes her four exceptional children - Andrew, Sara, Ryan and Molly. She aspires to be a good role model for them, setting a good example for ethics, work-ethic, entrepreneurship and the importance of a loving and supporting family.

Accomplishments in Business

  • Katie has been named Wall Street Journal’s REAL Trends America’s Best Real Estate Agents for six consecutive years, a noteworthy accomplishment because the source is based on sales data. Other “awards” and rankings are actually accolades that can be purchased, but REAL Trends is an undisputed, credible source that realtors can’t pay to rank on.

  • Machoskie & Associates recently ranked in the top 1.5% in the Nation and #38 in California, selling $172 million in 2022.

  • Katie was selected as the only agent in the region as the Orange County Representative for the COMPASS Private Client Network, which helps clients anywhere relocate more seamlessly.

  • Based on her high level of production, Katie was invited to become a member of REALM, an international network of top-performing real estate professionals.

“Staying healthy, happy, and safe is what matters most to me.”

About Kati’es Family

Katie has four children. Her son Andrew is 30 years old, lives in Chicago, and is happily married. He works as an investment banker for Houlihan Lokey, selling billion-dollar food companies. Her daughter Sara is 28 and enjoys the flexibility that comes from owning her own jewelry company, SJM Studios. In her free time, Sara coaches the women’s JV Lacrosse team for Corona Del Mar High School. Katie’s youngest son, Ryan, is the Founder of MACHO'S Seasoning ™ and just launched his first product, Mars Dust. And Katie’s “grand finale,” Molly, recently celebrated her sweet 16. She’s an exceptionally good student and is a natural-born leader as the middle blocker for CDM High School and the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club.

Katie is married to Ed, who she fondly refers to as Eddie. They’ve been married for an extraordinary 31 years. Ed left a career in high-net-worth wealth management and is now thriving as an agent on her team. He’s exceptional at building relationships and finding opportunities. Working with her husband for four years now, Katie explains that their work styles are “diametrically different,” yet, they both genuinely respect each other and generate great outcomes together as a team.

Katie has fond memories of visiting her aunt and uncle, who moved to Newport Beach in 1969. After studying at UCLA, Katie lived in Los Angeles but found herself traveling to Orange County for work as she was freelancing with Fortune 500 food service companies. She loved the slower pace and the beach-style energy and knew it was a great place to raise children. So, Katie made the exciting move to Newport Beach in 1988 and has been here ever since. Her family resides in the beautiful community of One Ford Road in Newport Beach.

Giving Back

Katie has an extensive background in volunteer work, demonstrating her dedication to various causes. Currently, she’s the President of the CDM Girls Volleyball Foundation and devoted an impressive 19 years of her life to coaching youth soccer.

Recognizing the importance of being present in her children's lives despite her demanding work schedule, Katie always sought volunteer opportunities to spend quality time with them. “My rule was that any volunteer project had to include face time with my kids,” says Katie. That meant volunteering in classes and as a room parent for over 28 classrooms! In addition, Katie serves on an HOA Board for one of her investment properties.

Final Thoughts

“Everyone knows a Realtor. We compete with each other and also collaborate with each other. It’s such an odd push-and-pull dynamic. At COMPASS, I’ve never experienced such a lack of ego, and an entity that’s so solutions-driven, which in turn serves my clients in such a profoundly significant way,” says Katie
