A Newport Beach staple is marking a major milestone—Avila’s El Ranchito is celebrating 50 incredible years on the Peninsula. Originally opened in 1975 by 22-year-old Sergio Avila, the family-owned Mexican restaurant began as a cozy 40-seat eatery. Today, it’s grown into a cherished local institution, recognized for its authentic flavors, warm hospitality, and legacy of multi-generational ownership.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Avila’s is bringing back one of its most iconic traditions—$5 All You Can Eat Taco Tuesday. For two nights only, April 22 and April 29 from 4 to 10 p.m., guests can relive the legendary Taco Tuesday experience that drew lines around the block in the ’90s and 2000s. A live DJ will keep the party going, making this a memorable celebration.

Additional anniversary highlights include:

  • Avila’s Miracle Margarita available through April 30, with $4 from each drink donated to Miracles for Kids, thanks to a collaboration with Celaya Tequila.

  • Limited-edition 50th anniversary t-shirts, pint glasses, and coffee mugs are available for purchase while supplies last.

Still family-run, Sergio now shares the reins with his daughter Maribel Avila Ley. Together, they carry on a proud culinary tradition that spans three generations and 12 restaurant locations. Avila’s El Ranchito continues to be a cornerstone of the Newport Beach community—where delicious food, coastal vibes, and family roots run deep.
